PA115. Role of Language Centres in Enhancing Employability Skills

Abstract

The 21st century has seen a surge in the number of graduates seeking scarce employment opportunities.This changed landscape demands professional qualifications and employability skills, among them communication skills, for placement success, forging close links between universities and the workplace.Language Centres must look beyond existing practices of business ESP and incorporate significant elements of  business discourse. This paper will present both innovative and traditional strategies enabling language courses address the current needs of learners.

Ratna Mullick has an MA in English Literature from Calcutta University and  MAELT from Thames Valley University, London.  She has worked in Sultan Qaboos University since 2000.  Her experiences here include designing curriculum,developing materials, writing tests and administrative responsibilities.
