PA142. Demotivating Native-speakerism

Abstract

Is the native speaker a model of linguistic competence still appropriate in a globalized world?  The results of this cross-cultural, comparative study conducted in Japan & the U.A.E. with two different sets of subjects, corporate English language learners & University students, seem to indicate the contrary.  The presenter will share research which shows that instruction about native-speakerism increases students’ linguistic self-confidence.
