PA147. Motivation to Learn English: Listening to Students' Voices

Abstract

What motivates students towards learning English? The researchers used a mixed method approach involving questionnaires and focus groups to determine the students’ collective perspective towards English. The study involved ninety participants randomly selected from the four levels of the ELC at Salalah College of Technology. The exploratory study hopes to reveal the true level of student motivation and thereby inform teaching and learning practices and policies in the region.

Rais Attamimi currently lectures in English Language at Salalah College of Technology. Previously he taught EFL at Aden and Hadramout Universities in Yemen. His Doctorate from the Malaysian University of Science reflects his interests in sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics.
