PA156. EFL Reading between Post-basic Schools and University Classrooms

Abstract

This presentation compares and contrasts several aspects pertinent to EFL reading between grades 11 and 12 in post-basic schools and Omani universities. Using data collected mainly through a questionnaire administered to school students in three governorates and foundation program students in three universities, the presentation reports on school and university students’ attitudes towards reading in English, the kind of problems and challenges they face when reading and the reading strategies they employ.

Fawzia Al Seyabi is the Deputy Director of Professional Development at the Language Centre/  Sultan Qaboos University. She holds a PhD in TEFL from University of Essex, UK. Her research interests include cultural studies and humanistic approaches in teaching.
