Presentation title

PA171. Special Needs Learners, Diagnosis and Intervention: Alternative Assessment

Abstract

Historically, in the United States and elsewhere, special needs learners have been placed in “special education programs” and then mainstreamed whenever possible.  When students are diagnosed with “learning disabilities”, appropriate intervention measures are employed.  This paper will discuss how students’ learning outcomes are evaluated by what is commonly referred to as “alternative assessment”.  In this context, the presenter will highlight how a student’s learning style is taken into consideration when maximizing his/her learning potential.
