PA201. Facebook Fosters Autonomous Learning in ELT Classroom

Abstract

This presentation sheds light on the use of Facebook as an interaction channel to gear students towards being autonomous language learners.The target group is higher levels foundation program students at Sultan Qaboos University. Based on a survey, students agreed that Facebook is a convenient application since they have mobile access to it via their SMART phones. The Facebook page served as an interesting communication tool that helped enhancing language use outside of the classroom

Asila Al Maawali is a lecturer at Ibra College of Technology. She has a Masters in Foreign and Second Language Education from the University of Iowa,USA. She got her BA from SQU in TEFL in 2003.
