PA226. From Memorization to Critical Thinking in Learning English

Abstract

The current study examines the relationship between English test anxiety and two learning strategies that Omani students use in learning English, memorization and critical thinking. The 249 participants responded to three subscales of the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). The results show that students use moderate levels of memorization and critical thinking and they experience moderate levels of test anxiety. The two learning strategies seemed to have statistically significant correlations with test anxiety.
