PA45. Integrating Culture and Language Skills in ELT: Rationale

Abstract

This presentation aims at demonstrating that in today's globalized world the effective teaching of any second or foreign language requires an integrated-skill approach that integrates not only the four language skills, but also the cultural variables of both the target language and the students themselves. The participants will benefit through being exposed to innovative frameworks that incorporate culture in ELT in addition to witnessing practical suggestions for integrating culture in actual practice of ELT.

Shaker Al-Mohammadi is the Director of the Foundation Program Unit at BUC. He is also a PhD candidate in Tunisia. He has been working in the field of ELT for 12 years and he has various publications in the field.
