Presentation title

PA51. What Makes a Professional English Language Teacher Educator?

Abstract

The “traditional” authoritative/directive training of some student teachers around the world has brought into question the qualities of the “professional” teacher educator (TE). This presentation critically investigates the qualities of the professional ELT TE. It reports the findings of a qualitative study that targeted 63 participants representing 23 countries. Four themes emerged from the data and constructed the qualities of the professional TE. The findings have implications for producing professional teachers around the world.
