PO6. Pre-Renaissance Developments in Education in Oman

Abstract

In his call for a pedagogical ethos towards teaching in the Gulf, Smith (2011) outlines the importance of understanding the “cultural-historical complex” (p. 1) of education in the region.  Although much has been written about the cultural and religious elements that inform this understanding, historical developments in education have often received less attention.  This presentation seeks to partially address this issue by offering a timeline of developments in education in Oman prior to 1970.
