WS14. Motivating EFL learners: Some effectual macrostrategies

Abstract

The learner’s motivation is an affective variable to be reckoned with in L2 development. Research in applied linguistics has established a strong (positive) correlation between learner motivation and language acquisition. In this workshop, the construct of motivation will be explicated as well as the issues and implications of motivational propensities for EFL instruction will be examined. Moreover, a set of effectual macrostrategies for language learners’ motivation will be offered. Finally, a research-based framework will be introduced to implement the macrostrategies in order to enhance and sustain the motivation of L2 learners in the local EFL teaching context.
