Presentation title

WS27. Using games to enhance the teaching of reading

Abstract

A recent field study conducted to investigate reading challenges in the Omani EFL context revealed that learners lack motivation to cope with reading. This study will be briefly reviewed before proceeding to the main focus of the workshop: games. One of the best ways to enhance the teaching of reading is the use of games. These can channel children's natural instinct for fun into successful language learning and help them to work cooperatively in groups and to work within a set of rules. The workshop will focus on computer-based games which can be effectively used in Omani school classrooms.
