WS60. Bridging the Gap: Making Materials Accessible to Students

Abstract

An interactive presentation demonstrating how locally produced materials can bridge the gap between students’ level of English on intake and OAAA outcomes in terms of skills, vocabulary development, appeal and cultural appropriacy. Participants will receive a set of books and CDs and look at various activities which promote learning through culturally sensitive and localized contexts.

LucyJane has been teaching for over 20 years in Europe and in the Middle East. Since starting work at the University of Nizwa in 2012, she has taught, helped with curriculum development and with assessment. She is now Level 1 coordinator.

Yussuf Sookdin, Mr.
Foundation Institute, University of Nizwa
Yussuf Sookdin has worked in South Africa, Egypt, the UK, Palestine and Oman and is an experienced EFL/ESL teacher and a published author. He is a writer and the editor for the GFP Materials Writing Project.
