Presentation title

WS68. Using Media to Develop "Four-Skills" Authenticity

Abstract

Extracurricular and supplemental activities are crucial for supporting learners’ interests and comprehension of real-world application. Textbook materials often leave creation of exercises that establish personal connection to content up to the instructor. Media projects (specifically print media and radio) require students to develop “the four skills” in English, which adds authenticity to the creation of written and spoken pieces. In this workshop, the presenters will provide an overview of the newspaper and radio programs they supervised ELLs to develop for the Sultan Qaboos University Foundation Programme and showcase examples of published products from classroom competitions and ELL staff members.
