WS72. Reading Braille

Abstract

The presenter will start by defining Braille system of writing and will give a brief introduction about its history. Then, she will shed light on the main features of Braille reading and the differences between Braille and normal English handwriting. Later, she will narrate her experience of dealing with blind students and teaching them reading skills and strateiges.  Finally,she will share some challenges she faced when teaching reading in Braille and will suggest some solutions to tackle them.

Suad Al-naabi is an English Language senior teacher at Omar bin Al-Khattab Institute for the Blind. She obtained her masters degree in translation studies from Sultan Qaboos University in 2010, and her BA from the same university in 2002.
